Many weekend adventures!

This morning I told Nicole I was going to update the blog. She said I needed to because I was behind. I responded that I just posted on Thursday. Then I imported the photos... we have been having lots of fun since Thursday! Lots of pictures in this post, hope you enjoy!

On Thursday, the school activity for the week was to go horseback riding. We rode west of town to see the scenery. It was beautiful, we rode until we were about 10 km from the border of Gutaemala. Below are pictures of each of us with our horses.

On Friday was an important festival in Copan, the festival of the Guacamaya, the national bird of Honduras. On this day, the bird park in Copan (see the post from our first week in Copan when we visited) releases dozens of Guacamaya birds into the wild. The bird almost went extinct a few years ago, now they have been removed from the endangered list (onto the threatened list) because of the work of this bird park to save the Guacamaya. The festival had activities for the kids and a series of concerts. Below are a few pictures from our fun at the festival.

Early Saturday morning we headed up to Panacam next to the Yajoa Lake, the only lake in Honduras. We went hiking to a couple of waterfalls where the kids were able to go swimming.

Our second day we went Kayaking on the lake. It was lots of fun. Tyler and Emma went to the other side of lake and back. Josiah, Emma, and Nicole found snail shells in the lake. It was a great time!

Beautiful!

We stopped for food down the road next to the lake at a place called Honduyate, it was a breathtaking view

After this we headed back to Copan, but our driver told us we had to stop to see one more waterfall. I am glad he did, it is the biggest waterfall in Honduras, 140 feet (for perspective, Niagara Falls is 170 feet). It was another amazing view of the beauty of Honduras.

This one looks like a post card!

This ends our adventures for the weekend. But I was asked to always include some food pictures, so here are a few random dishes we ate over the last few days to wrap up this post:

Kinda like nachos, but Honduras style

Fish Fingers is what this one is called
