We got to spend all of Saturday exploring San Salvador, the capital of El Salvador. Tyler made everyone walk FOREVER to see various landmarks. But it was fun to get to know another city in another county. First we went to an artisan market where we bought some souvenirs. There was a mural the kids wanted a picture in front of

After a bit of a walk we came to a famous statue, The Monument of the Devine Savior of the World. This tall statue is featured on many pictures of the city. It shows Jesus standing on top of the world as a symbol that he is saving all from their sins.

We continued our walk though the main streets of El Salvador to reach the city center. We went through an exciting market that stretched for blocks! Finally we reached the center of the city where we saw the National Palace and the San Salvador Cathedral, which was huge and beautiful!

After nearly 7 miles of walking, Tyler finally consented to a taxi to go to the hotel. We also went to an art museum that was near our hotel in the Pink District, but didn't take any pictures. We did get a picture of a typical El Salvadorean Dish, Pupusas, a think handmade tortilla stuffed with cheese and pork, beans, or loroco (a vine flower bud native to Central America).

That was our Saturday in El Salvador. We woke up early Sunday morning to head to the airport and now we are waiting for our plane that will take us to San Jose, Costa Rica. We will then board a LONG bus ride to San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua. We can't fly directly to Nicaragua because of the political instability and road blockades in the capital. But the area we are going to will be safe, we just won't be able to travel much around the country this time. But we will be on the beach, so I'm not complaining! Our next post will be from Nicaragua!
